New Leasehold & Refit For The Flying Duck Hotel

Following the new leasehold of ‘The Duck’ by the team behind Hobsons Bay Hotel, the venue is set for a refit comprising an 84-seat dining room in the open plan style, public bar and outdoor beer garden. Situated at 64 Bendigo Street, Prahran, the new venue plans to reopen its doors in September for functions and events, occasions and casual dining.

This classic corner hotel, affectionately known by the local community as ‘The Duck’, is adjacent to the thriving Chapel Street hospitality precinct and its sprawling beer garden is known as one of Melbourne’s best gardens.

Brenton Lang, founder of Rustica and Hobsons Bay Hotel has put together a team consisting of Head Chef Ben Pigott (Hobsons Bay Hotel, Supernormal, Cumulus, Van Haandel Group), Michael Conlon (Hobsons Bay Hotel, Van Haandel Group, Scott Pickett Group) Tom Bulling (Hobsons Bay Hotel, Neptune, Lamaros) and Drew Gibbs (Hobsons Bay Hotel and Rustica). Chef Ben Pigott says:

“We hope we can carry on the tradition of being a local institution, and provide a modern space for the community to gather for a meal or just pop past for a beer and watch the footy.”

“We have designed a new dining space which we hope will excite locals, creating a mixture of both a public bar atmosphere at the rear, and a more polished restaurant service in the dining room at the front.”

An all new menu designed around a newly installed wood fired grill will offer Victorian steak cooked over the coals, roast duck, fresh premium seafoods and will retain the pub classic favourites such as cheeseburgers and fish and chips.
